SoftMaker is a long-standing developer of applications for working with Microsoft Office files. There are versions for a variety of platforms, and the company will soon add an Android OS edition the the list.
Martin Kotulla, the head of this company, wrote in the Brighthand Forums:
The full SoftMaker Office will be coming out for Android. We are first starting with a netbook/tablet version in a few weeks, then a version for phones.
SoftMaker's goal for its mobile Office suite is to allow users to open, edit, and save any Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file on their smartphone. If the Android OS version is like the Windows Mobile one, it will enable users to work with these files directly and without conversion, retaining all the formatting, functions, and contents.
SoftMaker Office will have to go up against other Office suites for devices running Google's operating system, including DataViz Documents To Go.
