AT&T May Have Canceled the Motorola Flipout

AT&T never officially announced plans to offer the Motorola Flipout, but several unconfirmed reports indicated that it was going to release this inexpensive Android OS-based smartphone. New evidence has emerged that this model may have been dropped at the last minute.

According to information that had previously leaked out of AT&T, the Flipout was scheduled to debut last Sunday. The carrier's retail stores had even supposedly received promotional materials. 

However, the launch didn't happen, and AT&T store managers have reportedly been told to destroy the promotional materials on this smartphone.

At this point, it's not clear if this Motorola model has been completely dropped, if if it has only been delayed.

Overview of the Motorola Flipout
Motorola has been experimenting with different designs for phones, and it is trying out a one with a flip-around display.

The Motorola Flipout is an entry-level model with 2.8-inch Touchscreen that can rotate around to expose a small keyboard and D-pad.

It runs Android OS 2.1 on a 700 MHz processor with 256 MB of RAM.

In addition, the Flipout includes MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter, text messages, as well as consumer and business email accounts, into a universal inbox.

This GPS phone includes HSPA 3G, a GPS receiver and a 3.1 megapixel camera.

Motorola is targeting this product at younger consumers, and it comes in a range of casing colors, including black, green, blue, and pink.
