Verizon Prepping the HTC Merge Android OS Slider

Verizon's HTC Merge To Be Based on the HTC Lexikon

A version of the recently-announced HTC Desire Z is reportedly going to be released by Verizon Wireless as the HTC Merge.

At this point, all that has leaked out on the Merge is images and a few details. However, these generally match the Desire Z, a smartphone that was unveiled two weeks ago.

On the other hand, information that leaked out of Verizon last month indicated that this model will have some differences from the Desire Z, including a larger screen (4 inches vs. 3-7 inches) and a faster processor (1.2 GHz vs. 800 MHz).

Verizon's version will supposedly be a worldphone, capable of using its CDMA network in the U.S. as well as the GSM networks in Europe, Asia, and beyond.

There is no word yet on when the HTC Merge will hit store shelves, or what its price will be.

HTC Desire Z Overview
Most people should recognize the Desire Z as a version of the T-Mobile G2.  As such, it is going to be a slider with a 3.7-inch, WVGA touchscreen and landscape-oriented keyboard.

It will run Android OS 2.2 on an 800 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512 MB of RAM. This smartphone will include 1.5 GB of internal storage as well as a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

The Desire Z is going to have 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS.

It's 5 megapixel camera will offer auto-focus, flash, face detection, and geotagging, as well as support for 720p HD video recording.

A 1300 mAh battery and 3.5 mm headset jack round out the list.
