Verizon's HTC Merge To Be Based on the HTC Lexikon

Recently, an unconfirmed report indicated that Verizon Wireless is readying the HTC Merge, a high-end slider smartphone running Google's Android OS. It now appears that this model will be based on the HTC Lexikon, not the HTC Desire Z as had been previously thought.

This information gives a more accurate listing of the upcoming model's specifications. Still, all details are based on leaked reports, as Verizon has not yet officially announced this product. It is not even clear that the official product name will be "Merge".

Preliminary Overview
The Merge/Lexikon will supposedly include 3.8-inch WVGA (800 x 480) Touchscreen as well as the standard set of control buttons. Like many HTC models, this one will apparently eschew a D-pad. 

On this inside, this smartphone will run Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on an 800 MHz processor, and sport 512 MB of RAM, according to the leaked description. HTC Sense 1.6 will overlay the standard user interface.

It will also allegedly include a 5 megapixel camera and 4 GB of internal storage.

This Verizon device will supposedly be a worldphone, capable of using this carrier's CDMA network in the U.S. as well as the GSM networks in Europe, Asia, and beyond.

There is no word yet on when the HTC Merge/Lexikon will hit store shelves, or what its price will be.
