AT&T will soon begin offering two of the latest smartphones from Research in Motion. The BlackBerry Curve 3G will be out in time for the holidays, while the BlackBerry Pearl 3G will hit store shelves in mid-October.
These two models have much in common, but the Pearl 3G is smaller and uses a different keyboard design.
RIM has committed to releasing a BlackBerry OS 6 upgrade to replace the version of OS 5 both of these devices are running now. This will bring in a greatly improved web browser, better email apps, and other enhancements.
BlackBerry Curve 3G Overview
The Curve 3G (9300) has a tablet shape with a 320 by 240 pixels (QVGA) display and a QWERTY keyboard.
This smartphone comes with an extensive collection of software, letting users update their Facebook and MySpace pages on the go, as well as play music and games, and use other mobile apps.
Naturally, AT&T's version of the Curve 3G is going to support this carrier's 3G (HSPA) service, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
This smartphone has a 2 megapixel camera, a microSD/SDHC memory card slot (supports up to 32 GB cards), and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
Overall, it is 4.3 x 2.4 x 0.55 inches and 3.7 oz.
BlackBerry Curve 3G Overview
The Pearl 3G (9100) is going to include a 20-key SureType keyboard like its predecessors, as well as a 2.25-inch, 360 x 400 pixel display.
Despite its small size, this model won't be short on wireless features: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS will all be included.
The Pearl 3G is also going to include a microSD memory card slot and a a 3.2 megapixel camera.
Overall, it is going to be 4.25 x 1.97 x 0.55 inches and 3.3 ounces.
Pricing and Availability
The BlackBerry Curve 3G is going to cost $99.99 with a two-year contract, but no mail-in rebate will be required.
AT&T's exact release date has not been announced, just that the carrier will introduce it "in time for the holidays". This model is already available from T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon.
The BlackBerry Pearl 3G is coming sooner -- AT&T says it will launch on October 17.
It will sell for $150 with a two-year contract.
