Sprint and T-Mobile Prepping Android OS-based LG Optimus Models

T-Mobile has announced that it's going to be offering the LG Optimus T, while Sprint is getting the Optimus S. Both are versions of an inexpensive Android OS-based device created for those buying their first smartphone.

Despite their slightly different names, these will be essentially identical.

As entry-level models, they will include 3.2-inch, HVGA Touchscreen -- smaller and lower resolution than more costly devices.

The Optimus S and T will run Android OS 2.2 on a 600 MHz processor, so they will have the latest version of Google's operating system, but a slower chip than high-end devices use.

They will sport 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Plus these smartphones will have a 3 megapixel auto-focus camera and a 1500 mAh battery.

T-Mobile is going to bundle a 2 GB microSD memory card with its version, but Sprint will not. Sprint's version, on the other hand, will be able to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, something the T-Mobile device won't offer.

As they will run Google's mobile operating system, these smartphones will include a collection of entertainment and communication apps, including a very capable web browser, navigation software, and much more.

They are going to be a version of the Optimus One, which was recently unveiled by LG.

Pricing & Availability
T-Mobile says the LG Optimus T will be available in time for the holiday shopping season, but didn't give a more exact timetable. Pricing was also not announced.

Sprint was more forthcoming, saying that the Optimus S will hit store shelves on Oct. 31, and will cost $50 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate.
