Apple has released to developers a beta of iOS 4.2, the next version of its mobile operating system. This is going to bring support for printing and other features to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
This is actually the third beta of iOS 4.2 given to developers so far, and it is reportedly very stable.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the release to the general public is coming soon. When Steve Jobs announced iOS 4.2 September, he said it wouldn't be available until November.
More about Apple iOS 4.2
This new version is going to be for Apple's smartphone, handheld, and tablet.
The most significant new feature iPhone and iPod touch is going to be AirPrint, which will allow these devices to send print jobs to wireless printers that supports this feature.
iOS 4.2 will be an even more significant upgrade for the iPad, as this tablet computer is still running iOS 3.1. In addition to support for AirPrint, it will also bring multitasking and application folders.
