iPhone Users Can Now Video Conference with Macs over FaceTime

Apple has just released a beta of FaceTime for Mac, which for the first time allows Apple iPhone and iPod touch users to video chat with desktop and laptop users running Mac OS X.

The iPhone 4, released over the summer, was one of the first smartphones to offer a front-facing camera and video conferencing. However, its FaceTime app could only connect with other iPhone 4 units. The latest iPod touch added to the list of devices with support for FaceTime, but Apple was still criticized that there were so few option for using this app.

The new desktop version, however, removes much of this limitation, allowing those with Apple latest mobile devices to make video calls to anyone with a Mac who installs this free app.

The beta of FaceTime for Mac is available now on Apple's website.
