Two Android OS smartphones from Motorola will reportedly be released by Verizon Wireless just before the middle of next month.
Despite some similarities, the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global will offer consumers very different form factors.
The Droid Pro has already been announced, and Verizon has said it will be available in the first week of November. An unconfirmed report indicates that it will actually be out a bit late: on November 11.
The same report says that the Motorola Droid 2 Global is going to be released on that same day. This will supposedly be a version of the current Droid 2 with the ability to make calls when roaming outside of the United States
More about the Motorola Droid Pro
The Droid Pro has clearly been designed to lure in those who are used to a BlackBerry, but want the power and flexibility of the Android OS.
It will have a tablet shape, with a small portrait-oriented keyboard fixed below its 3.1 inch, WVGA touchscreen.
This Android OS 2.2 smartphone will have a 1 GHz processor, 2 GB of internal storage, plus it will be bundled with a 2 GB microSD memory card.
The Droid Pro will work on Verizon's network in the U.S. as well as GSM networks when roaming in other countries. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS will also be included.
More about the Motorola Droid 2 Global
Unlike the Droid Pro, the Droid 2 Global has not yet been officially announced. Still, Motorola accidentally revealed the details of this smartphone on its website a few weeks ago.
The main difference between the current Droid 2 and the upcoming Global version will apparently be support for both Verizon's CDMA/EV-DO network in the United States and the GSM/HSPA networks that are available in most other countries.
In addition, the new model is supposedly going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1.2 GHz processor, while the original Droid 2 has a 1 GHz processor.
Aside from these changes, though, the Droid 2 Global will be very similar to its predecessor. This means the Verizon smartphone is going to be a slider with a 3.7-inch WVGA display and a landscape-oriented keyboard.
It will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, 8 GB of on-board storage, and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.
