Motorola Droid Pro May Cost More than Expected

Verizon has committed to launching the Motorola Droid Pro in the next few weeks, but has yet to say what this high-end Android OS smartphone is going to cost. The price has leaked out of the carrier, and it's higher than many had expected.

The Droid Pro is going to be an important product for Motorola, as it will be this company's bet attempt so far to lure in current Blackberry users.

That's why it's surprising that Verizon is supposedly going to ask $300 for it with a two-year contract. That's $100 more than high-end smartphones typically sell for.

It should be noted that this price is not official, and Verizon may be intending to include an instant rebate, bringing the cost down.

Motorola Droid Pro Overview
The Droid Pro has clearly been designed to lure in those who are used to a BlackBerry, but want the power and flexibility of the Android OS.

It will have a tablet shape, with a small portrait-oriented keyboard fixed below its 3.1 inch, WVGA touchscreen.

This Android OS 2.2 smartphone will have a 1 GHz processor, 2 GB of internal storage, plus it will be bundled with a 2 GB microSD memory card.

The Droid Pro will work on Verizon's network in the U.S. as well as GSM networks when roaming in other countries. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS will also be included.

Coming Soon
This smartphone has already been announced, and Verizon has said it will be available in the first week of November. An unconfirmed report indicates that it will actually be out a bit late: on November 11.
