Motorola Droid 2 Gets a 25% Price Cut

Verizon has dropped the price of the Motorola Droid 2 by $50. This move comes amidst numerous unconfirmed reports that the Droid 2 Global, an improved version of this high-end Android OS smartphone, is going to be out next week.

This Motorola model debuted in late summer, and replaced the very popular original Droid. It offers a faster processor than its predecessor, and a re-arranged keyboard, but it wasn't a dramatic improvement.

It had been selling for $200 with a two-year service contract, but that price has dropped to to $150 with contract..

Overview of the Motorola Droid 2
This high-end Android OS smartphone from Verizon is a slider with a 3.7-inch WVGA display and a landscape-oriented keyboard.

Because it has Android OS 2.2, this smartphone has a very capable web browser, email software, music and video player, and the the web browser supports Adobe Flash.

The Droid 2 can connect to Verizon's 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) network, and it includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It can also act as a mobile hotspot.

It has a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, 8 GB of on-board storage as well as an 8 GB microSD/SDHC memory card.

Enter the Motorola Droid 2 Global
In the last month or so, details of the Droid 2 Global have been leaking out. According to information that was accidentally posted on Motorola's own website, this will be an enhanced version of the current device.

The main difference between the current Droid 2 and the upcoming Global version will apparently be support for both Verizon's CDMA/EV-DO network in the United States and the GSM/HSPA networks that are available in most other countries.

In addition, the new model is supposedly going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1.2 GHz processor, while the original Droid 2 has a 1 GHz processor.

The Motorola Droid 2 Global will reportedly sell for $200 with contract, and will be launched by Verizon on November 11.
