The iPhone 4 will be going on sale in hundreds of Target stores scattered across the United States at the begiining of next week.
It has been in Apple and AT&T stores for months, but this new agreement will make Apple's popular smartphone easier for consumers to buy during the upcoming holiday shopping season.
The iPhone 4 will only be available in the 846 locations that have Target Mobile centers, not all 1,752. Customers will be able to buy a device and have it activated in the store.
The retalier will also be selling the iPhone 3GS, the previous version of this iOS-based model.
Both of these iPhone versions will go on sale at Target stores on Sunday, November 7.
Overview of the Apple iPhone 4
This smartphone has an 3.5-inch, 960 x 640 touchscreen, giving it a higher resolution display than any of its competitors. It is also one of the first with a front-facing camera, allowing users to make video calls.
The iPhone 4 runs iOS 4.1, the latest version of Apple's operating system, on a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor.
There is a large array of third-party software available: 300,000 apps at last count. A good percentage of these are games, but there are also productivity apps as well as a wide range of utilities.
The iPhone 4 comes in two configurations: a version with 16 GB of storage costs $200 from AT&T and one with 32 GB goes for $300.
This smartphone has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with a flash, as well as support for recording 720p video at 30 frames per second. In addition, it includes a small front-facing camera for video chatting with an app called FaceTime.
It also has 3G wireless networking, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.
