Motorola Defy Rugged Android OS Smartphone Now Available

T-Mobile has just begun offering the Motorola Defy, a mid-range model running Google's Android OS that has been designed to take a bit punishment.

People generally have to be careful with their smartphone, as a bit of water in the wrong place can ruin a device. Motorola created the Defy so people don't have to be concerned about everyday little accidents -- it is water and scratch resistant as well as dust proof.

Motorola Defy Overview
This smartphone has a tablet shape, with a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 640) display. That gives is a screen nearly as large as the one in the new T-Mobile myTouch 4G. 

The Defy runs Google's Android OS 2.1 on an 800 MHz processor, and has MotoBlur, Motorola's alternate version of the standard user interface that focuses on social networking.

It comes with a suite of communication and entertainment applications, but its web browser includes Adobe Flash Lite, not the full version of this multimedia software.

The Defy supports T-Mobile's 3G cellular-wireless network, as well as Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS.

This Motorola smartphone also sports a 5-megapixel camera, a microSD memory card slot, and a 1540 mAh battery.

Overall, the Defy is 2.3 x 4.2 x 0.5 inches and 4.6 ounces.

It sells for $100 with a two-year wireless service contract and $50 mail-in rebate, or for $380 to those willing to forgo the contract.
