Apple iOS 4.2 Could Come to the iPhone and iPad this Friday

Apple has promised to introduce iOS 4.2 by the end of this month, and an unconfirmed report indicates that it be released in just a couple of days.

This system software upgrade for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch is going to bring support for printing and other features.

When Apple CEO Steve Jobs first took the wraps off iOS 4.2 back at the beginning of September, he said it would be introduced in November. According to information leaking out of AT&T, the new version will be available on Friday, Nov. 12.

This new version is going to be for the most recent version of Apple's smartphone and handheld, as well as its tablet.

The most significant new feature iPhone and iPod touch is going to be AirPrint, which will allow these devices to send print jobs to wireless printers that supports this feature.

iOS 4.2 will be an even more significant upgrade for the iPad, as this tablet computer is still running iOS 3.1. In addition to support for AirPrint, it will also bring multitasking and application folders.

Apple gave the Golden Master version of iOS 4.2 to developers last week, so its release could coming be any day.

New Desktop Software, Too
Along with a new version of its mobile software, Apple is reportedly going to need to release Mac OS X 10.6.5 as well as iTunes 10.1 in the near future.

These new versions are required to support AirPrint and AirPlay.

UPDATE: OS X 10.6.5 has been released, as predicted. The changelog for this new version says nothing about AirPrint support.
