Verizon Prepping Low-Cost Motorola Citrus Android OS Smartphone

The Motorola Citrus is going to be released by Verizon Wireless tomorrow. This inexpensive model will run Google's very popular Android operating system and have an entry-level feature set.

It will have a tablet shape with a 3-inch QVGA (320 x 240) capacitive touchscreen. Users will type with an on-screen keyboard, or the Swype text-entry system will be an option.

This device is going to have an unusual feature, the backtrack -- a touchpanel located on the back of the device.

The Citrus will run Android OS 2.1, and have 1 GB of internal storage plus a 2 GB microSD card. Users will be able to swap this out for higher-capacity cards, up to 32 GB.

It will support Verizon's 3G network (EV-DO Rev 0) as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

This smartphone is also going to include a 3 megapixel camera, a 1150 mAh battery, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

Pricing and Availability
The Motorola Citrus is going to be released by Verizon Wireless on Thursday, Nov. 11.

It will cost $50 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year wireless service agreement.
