Google Nexus S Apparently Coming this Holiday Season

A slip-up by a national retailer has revealed that a smartphone called the Nexus S is going to be released soon.

Best Buy briefly had a note on its website this morning touting an upcoming exclusive offering: the "Pure Google" Nexus S for T-Mobile.

Given its name, this will almost certainly be a follow-up to the Google Nexus One, an Android OS smartphone that launched early this year and was discontinued over the summer.

Nexus S = Nexus Two?
There have recently been several unconfirmed reports that Samsung is working on a Google Nexus Two. It's quite possible these were referring to the Nexus S.

If so, then this model will have the same 4-inch, Super AM-OLED touchscreen that's in most of Samsung's current devices.

All the reports on the second-generation model so far indicate that it will be the first with Google's Android OS 2.3 (code-named Gingerbread). This new version will supposedly have a user interface that's been tweaked a bit.

OS 2.3 is also supposed to have support for Google Talk's video chatting system, and the Nexus S will allegedly have a front-facing video camera.

The "Pure Google" reference means that this device will run the straight version of this company's operating system, without the user interface changes that Samsung adds to its other smartphones.

At this point, all of its other specifications remain unknown.

Coming Soon?
The information accidentally revealed by Best Buy indicates that the Google Nexus S will be released "this holiday season". That means it could be out almost any time in the next 6 weeks.

It's not clear yet if this will be a T-Mobile exclusive, or if it will be offered by other wireless carriers.

What this device will sell for has not yet leaked out.
