Information on a cutting-edge smartphone supposedly on its way to Verizon continues to trickle out. Reports indicate the HTC Droid Incredible HD will have features that put it significantly ahead of any current model.
This Android OS-based device has not yet been announced, but quite a few of its specifications have leaked out already.
The Droid Incredible HD is expected to have a 4.3-inch touchscreen at a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. If true, this model will have a higher-resolution display than any current smartphone.
Prototypes are running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), but this model could have OS 3.3 or even 3.0 by the time it is released. The HTC Sense user interface will be layered on top.
It reportedly will use a next-generation dual-core 1.2 MHz processor from Qualcomm.
This HTC model -- code-name Mecha -- is supposedly going to be one of the first smartphones with support for Verizon's LTE network, which is scheduled to be launched before the end of this year. This 4G service is giving prototypes 9 Mbps downloads and 5 Mbps uploads.
Because LTE will be available in only a few areas at launch, the Droid Incredible HD will also include the 3G service EV-DO.
It will have an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, giving it the ability to record 1080p HD video. A front-facing camera will allow for video conferencing.
All the details on this model aren't available yet, but other features on the leaked specifications list include a kickstand and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
Pricing and Availability: Unknown
At this point, Verizon's release date for the HTC Droid Incredible HD remains a mystery, but it certainly won't be before this carrier's 4G service is available to the public.
The price for this cutting-edge smartphone is equally unknown.
