Apple iOS 4.2 Release May Have Been Pushed Back to Next Wednesday

A serious bug that that was found practically at the last minute has reportedly delayed the introduction of iOS 4.2 for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. This operating system upgrade is now expected to debut in the middle of next week.

Apple gave the Golden Master version of iOS 4.2 to developers early this month, and it was supposedly set for release last Friday, but some of the people testing this on the iPad ran into into problems connecting to the Internet over a Wi-Fi connection.

A new Golden Master version was reportedly sent out just to developers on Friday. If this proves to be bug free, information leaking out of Apple indicates that it will be available to the general public on Wednesday, Nov. 24.

This new version of Apple's operating system is going to be for the most recent editions of this company's smartphone and handheld, as well as its tablet.

The most significant new feature for the iPhone and iPod touch is going to be AirPrint, which will allow these devices to send print jobs to wireless printers that support this feature.

iOS 4.2 will be an even more important upgrade for the iPad, as this tablet computer is still running iOS 3.2. In addition to support for AirPrint, it will also bring multitasking and application folders.

Apple released iTunes 10.1 a few days ago -- the new version of this desktop app brings support for synchronizing with devices running iOS 4.2.
