Google Nexus S Details Continue to Trickle Out

Information on a follow-up to the Google Nexus One has been leaking out over the last week or so. Thanks to these unconfirmed reports, an almost complete specifications list for the Nexus S is now available.

Several unconfirmed reports indicate that this model is being produced by Samsung, and will be the first smartphone with Google's Android OS 2.3 (code-named Gingerbread). This new version will supposedly have a user interface that's been tweaked a bit.

OS 2.3 is also supposed to have support for Google Talk's video chatting system, and the Nexus S will allegedly have a front-facing video camera. This feature shows up in the images that have leaked out ( see example at left)

Like many of Samsung's recent smartphones, it will allegedly have a tablet shape with a 4-inch, Super AM-OLED touchscreen.

With a screen this size, the second-generation Nexus model won't be small. Information leaking out of the retailer Best Buy indicates that this device is going to be 4.9 x 2.5 x 0.5 inches. 

This retailer also indicates that the GT-i9020 is headed for T-Mobile, and will offer 3G (HSPA) but not this carrier's faster HSPA+ service. There's no word yet on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but a high-end model like this one will almost certainly include these.

Other features on the leaked list are a GPS receiver, a 5 megapixel camera, and a 1500 mAh battery.

Some important details of the Nexus S still remain a mystery, most notably its processor speed and amount of internal storage.

Information accidentally revealed by Best Buy indicates that the Google Nexus S will be released "this holiday season". That means it should be out at some time in the next 6 weeks.

It's not clear yet if this will be a T-Mobile exclusive, or if it will be offered by other wireless carriers.
