LG Prepping Cutting-Edge Android OS Smartphone for Release Next Year

Those looking for a cutting-edge Android OS smartphone should keep their eye on LG, as this company is reportedly working on a model with a dual-core processor, large display, and 8 megapixel camera.

A partial list of specifications of this device has leaked out, along with a few images. It is code-named the LG Star, but the official name remains unknown.

This smartphone will allegedly have a 4-inch touchscreen in a tablet shape. A WVGA screen resolution is the most likely possibility.

It will be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. The first-generation of the Tegra 2 chips run a 1 GHz, but NVIDIA says that their dual-core architecture gives them "faster Web browsing, snappier response time, and overall better performance" than single-core 1 GHz processors.

Exactly which version of Google's Android OS will be running on the LG Star at its launch is not yet known. It could be OS 2.2, but OS 2.3 is expected to be released soon.

This model will supposedly have two cameras. A front-facing one will allow it to be used for video conferencing, while its rear-facing 8 megapixel camera will support 1080p HD video recording.

Inside this device will be a microSD memory card slot and a 1500 mAh battery.

The remaining specifications for this smartphone have yet to leak out.

The LG Star will reportedly be introduced early in 2011, but its price remains unknown.
