BlackBerry Bold 9780 Launches to Replace the Bold 9700

T-Mobile USA has just introduced the BlackBerry Bold 9780. This highly-capable smartphone uses RIM's typical design, and includes the latest version of this company's operating system: BlackBerry OS 6.0.

The Bold 9780 is the replacement for the Bold 9700, which this carrier launched a year ago and has now been discontinued. The new model has the same general design, but some of the specifications have been improved.

It has a tablet shape with a 2.44-inch, 480 x 360 display above a small keyboard.

This smartphone uses a 624 MHz processor and 528 MB of RAM to run BlackBerry OS 6.0, the latest version of RIM's operating system. This has been enhanced with a redesigned home screen and a more advanced web browser, among other changes.

It includes the same wireless capabilities as its predecessor: support for T-Mobile's 3G network, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Also on the feature list is a 5 megapixel camera and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

Pricing and Availability
T-Mobile is now offering the BlackBerry Bold 9780 in black or white casings.

It sells for $130 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a two-year service agreement and qualifying data plan.

Rival carrier AT&T also offers the BlackBerry Bold 9700, and earlier published reports indicate that this carrier is going to offer its replacement at some point soon.
