A sprinkling of information about the HTC Shift 4G -- AKA the HTC Knight -- has leaked out in recent weeks, and now even more details on this upcoming Android OS smartphone are available, including the processor speed.
This model, also known by its code-name of the HTC Knight, is expected to be Sprint's first device from HTC with both Google's operating system and a sliding keyboard.
According to information that leaked out this weekend, the Shift 4G is going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1 GHz processor, and this might be a dual-core chip.
The latest unconfirmed report also indicates that this smartphone is going to have an 8 megapixel camera.
Additional Details
The full set of specifications for this smartphone has yet to emerge, but an image has leaked out.
This shows the Knight/Shift 4G from the front, clearly showing of the 3.7-inch touchscreen and standard set of control buttons, but no D-pad. The resolution for the display is not yet known, but it's most likely WVGA.
The image apparently leaves out one of the most important features -- several inside sources have indicted this model is going to have a sliding keyboard, which will supposedly have four rows of keys.
The Sprint logo on the leaked picture makes it clear which carrier will be offering this model. And the "4G" in its name indicates that it will support this carrier's WiMAX service. This would make it Sprint's third model with this very fast cellular-wireless networking service.
Some details still remain a mystery, such as its storage capacity.
The HTC Knight/Shift 4G will reportedly be released early next year, possibly at CES, a giant electronics tradeshow that kicks off on January 6.
