Samsung Nexus S Set to Launch at Dawn Tomorrow

The first smartphone with Google's Android OS 2.3 (code-named Gingerbread) is set to hit store shelves early on Thursday morning.  The Samsung Nexus S is going to have a large, Super AM-OLED screen, dual cameras, and much more.

It is attracting attention because it is only the second model in the Nexus series, and was developed in cooperation with Google to be the launch device for the next version of the Android OS.

Launch Details
The Nexus S will be available exclusively from Best Buy, and will be in this retailer's stores and on its website. Sales will begin Dec. 16 at 8 am.

It is going to be available for $530 without a contract at all Best Buy stores, but some locations will be offering it for $200 with a two-year T-Mobile voice and data plan (see a list of these). 

Whether it is sold with a contract or without, it will be "unlocked", and therefore many of its functions are usable with any GSM carrier. However, it is only going to be compatible with T-Mobile's 3G network, not any of this carrier's rival's.

An Overview of the Samsung Nexus S
This Samsung smartphone will have much in common with this company's Galaxy S series models, including a tablet shape with a 4-inch, WVGA (800 x 480), Super AM-OLED touchscreen. The latest model, however, will have a display that curves to fit against the user's face.

As mentioned before, the Nexus S is going to run Android OS 2.3 on a 1 GHz Samsung processor. It will have 512 MB of RAM., 16 GB of internal storage, and a microSD memory card slot.

The latest version of Google's operating system will bring with it an improved user interface, built-in support for dual cameras and VoIP software, and other changes.

The Nexus S will also have a front-facing video camera for video conferencing, as well as a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera.

In addition to support for T-Mobile's 3G (HSPA) service, this Samsung device is going to include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS.
