Samsung Nexus S Released Today with Android OS 2.3

The wait for the new version of Google's operating system is over with the arrival of the Samsung Nexus S today, the first smartphone to run on Android OS 2.3, also known as Gingerbread.

At 8 a.m. this morning, the Nexus S was released exclusively by the retailer Best Buy, available for purchase online or at retail locations. It's available for $530 with no contract, but certain store locations have a special offer price of $200 with a two-year T-Mobile voice and data plan.

Regardless of whether or not it is purchased with a contract, the Nexus S is sold "unlocked," meaning that most of its functions will be usable with any GSM carrier, although the data service compatibility works exclusively with T-Mobile's 3G network.

As previously reported, the Samsung Nexus S has a host of features, including built-in support for its front- and rear-facing cameras and VoIP software, video conferencing capabilities, a 4-inch Super AM-OLED touchscreen, and a curved display to fit comfortably against users' faces.
