IDC Predicts Mobile App Growth Rapidly Rising in Coming Years

Apparently there will continue to be "an app for that" in the coming years, as the market-research firm IDC recently released a forecast predicting that revenue from mobile software sales is still growing at a shockingly fast pace.

According to the forecast, the number of downloaded apps will increase from 10.9 billion in 2010 to 76.9 billion in 2011.

Worldwide revenues from mobile apps will also continue to grow, supposedly going beyond the $35 billion mark in 2014.

The continued growth and success of mobile apps can be attributed to the “appification” of so many different tasks and needs, be it physical training, the tracking of a heartbeat, or help with the preparation of a meal.

"Mobile app developers will 'appify' just about every interaction you can think of in your physical and digital worlds," said Scott Ellison, vice president of Mobile and Wireless research at IDC. "The extension of mobile apps to every aspect of our personal and business lives will be one of the hallmarks of the new decade with enormous opportunities for virtually every business sector."
