The retailer Sam's Club is reportedly offering the Apple iPhone 4 at $147 with a two-year AT&T contract, down from the usual price of $200. This is a rare opportunity, as Apple's smartphone is almost never selling below the regular price.
This deal is not listed on Sam's Club's website, but the details of this special offer have leaked out of this warehouse club.
The Apple iPhone 3GS is supposedly going for $47 with a two-year contract. It's price elsewhere is $100 with contract.
A membership to Sam's Club is required to make any purchase, and this costs $50. This means that joining just to get this deal does not make sense.
The Verizon Factor?
If this unconfirmed report is correct, it will mean that Apple has changed a long-held policy. This company has never before allowed a retailer to sell the iPhone below the standard price until just before the device is going to be replaced with a new version.
However, the current circumstances are not usual. There are persistent but unconfirmed reports that Verizon is going to offer the iPhone 4 early next year, ending the lock on Apple's smartphone that AT&T has enjoyed since 2007. AT&T is reportedly trying to sell as many iPhones as it can before it has to face direct competition.
An Overview of the Apple iPhone 4
This smartphone has a 3.5-inch, 960 x 640 touchscreen, and its also one of the first smartphones with a front-facing camera, allowing users to make video calls.
The iPhone 4 runs iOS 4.2, on a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor. The version reportedly on sale from Sam's Club has 16 GB of storage capacity.
It has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with a flash, and the device also has 3G wireless networking, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.
