Motorola Cliq 2 Officially Confirmed at CES

Leaked photos and bits of information are all we had to go on previously, but Motorola officially announced its Cliq 2 today at CES, confirming the rumors about this 4G smartphone coming to T-Mobile customers.

While the Cliq 2 will run Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) -- and will likely be upgradeable to 2.3 (Gingerbread) somewhere down the line -- it will sport Motorola's Motoblur UI overlay on top of Google's operating system. Motoblur will be seeing some upgrades as well, such as the use of profile swapping; with the ability to switch between weekend mode and work mode, for example, users can instantly have all of the important applications for those different scenarios at their fingertips.

One of the more distinctive features about the Cliq 2 that was previously revealed in the leaked photos is the slide-out, honeycomb-patterned keyboard (though some say that it looks more like a spiderweb). Said to make it easier to type and send messages on the go, the keys are hexagonal and are slightly domed.

The Cliq 2, which will feature HSPA+ support, will be equipped with a 1 GHz processor, a 3.7-inch FWVGA display, and a 5 megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash.

It is going to come with 1 GB of available user memory and a 2 GB microSD card pre-installed, which is expandable for use with cards up to 32 GB.

The smartphone will also feature many connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and it will come loaded with mobile hotspot software, allowing the device to share its connection with up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices.

T-Mobile will launch the Motorolo Cliq 2 on January 19. Pricing has not been announced.
