BlackBerry Torch 2 Will Be a Significant Upgrade

The BlackBerry Torch may have struggled a bit in the fiercely competitive smartphone market, but Research in Motion is having another crack at it with the upcoming Torch 2.

Images and specs of the Torch successor have leaked out, revealing that the smartphone will sport a 3.2-inch VGA (640 x 480) capacitive display -- twice the resolution of its predecessor -- and will have tri-band HSPA+ connectivity for wireless data speeds up to 14.4 Mbps.

A Range of Improvements
Don't be fooled by the exterior of the Torch 2; with the exception of a matte silver finish, it remains the same in appearance, but quite a bit has changed under the hood. 

This device will supposedly run BlackBerry OS 6.1 on a 1.2 GHz processor -- twice as fast as the one in the original Torch. Additionally, the Torch 2 will pack 8 GB of built-in memory and 512 MB of RAM.

Other features will include Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, GPS, near field communications abilities, a 5-megapixel, rear-facing camera with flash, a proximity sensor, and Open GL ES.

Pricing information has yet to be disclosed, but according to the source for this information, the Torch 2 will be released in Q3 2011 on AT&T.
