Toktumi has released a version of its popular Line2 application for Android OS phones and tablets. The app allows users to add a second phone line to their smartphone, or bring voice capabilities to a tablet.
The new line comes with a unique number, and has SMS texting capabilities. Calls can be made over a Wi-Fi, 3G/4G data, or cellular voice network.
Also, Line2 has a free port-in offer, meaning a user can add an already existing number as their Line2 number free of charge.
This app has shown its usefulness in several capacities, including dividing a phone into business/personal sections or making calls in areas where cell reception isn't available, but a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G data connection is.
Brighthand originally reviewed both the iPhone version of Line2 and the Blackberry version, with mixed results. The Android should be similar to these earlier versions, with an added feature that will transcribe speech to text for hands-free text messaging.
Pricing & Availability
Line2 can be downloaded for free in the Android Marketplace, and is being offered with 30 days of free service. After that, pricing runs either $9.95 for unlimited calling and texting, or $14.95 for the Toktumi Unlimited plan, which has added PBX features like auto-attendant, call screening, caller-specific call forwarding, after-hours settings, and Mac/PC-based calling.
