There is good evidence that the long-awaited version of the iPhone 4 in a white outer casing is going to hit store shelves before too much longer, though the release of this oft-delayed product already appears a bit moot.
Apple released this smartphone in a black casing last summer, and promised that a white version would be available soon. However, this launch was pushed back twice -- the second time, Apple said this version wouldn't appear until springtime.
Now, however, inside sources indicate that the 'iPhone 4 – 16GB White" and "iPhone 4 – 32GB White" now appear in the product databases for AT&T, Best Buy, as well as Vodafone Germany.
None of these sources indicate when this alternate version of the smartphone is going to appear, so Apple's earlier estimate of 'sometime in the spring' is the best information available, which means it won't be available until March at the earliest.
Anyone considering waiting should keep in mind that the launch of the iPhone 5 is widely expected to happen just a few months later, in early summer -- Apple has introduced a new or updated smartphone in June or July of every year since 2007, and there's no reason to think 2011 will be any different.
