LG Optimus 3D Apparently Set to Debut at Mobile World Congress

While things are still up in the air about whether or not LG's upcoming G-Slate will feature a 3D display, evidence of a 3D-enabled Optimus smartphone has surfaced in the meantime.

Rumors about the phone first began to swirl when online retailer ThePhoneHouse posted a listing for an "LG Optimus 3D." No specs were mentioned, nor were there any accompanying images, aside from that of last year's LG Optimus One.

Lending far more credence to the claim of a 3D phone is the invite to LG's event at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in February. The invite features an image of an LG Optimus model, and the event is titled, "Into the New Dimension," hinting quite strongly that it will be used as a platform to unveil LG's 3D smartphone.

LG previously showcased a 4.3-inch, glasses-free 3D display at CES, but seeing as it was not attached to a specific device, it gave no indication at the time when or how the technology would be used.

It looks like the time to use that technology isn't far off, and given the recent discovery of NVIDIA's intention to produce a 3D-capable Tegra 2 chip, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to think that 3D-enabled phones will soon become something of a trend.

Putting Together the Pieces
Although virtually all the specifications for the Optimus 3D remain unknown, this device will almost certainly run the Android OS, as all the smartphones bearing the Optimus name released so far use Google's operating system.

Drawing together all the details, LG is apparently prepping a smartphone with a 4.3-inch 3D display in a bar shape, running the Android OS on a 1 or 1.2 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 3D processor.
