Verizon Customers Can Pre-order an Apple iPhone on Thursday

Update: Apple has recently announced the iPhone 5, here's how to get your hands on one as soon as possible.

Verizon won't introduce its version of the iPhone 4 until Feb. 10, but this carrier's current subscribers will be able to put in a pre-order a week earlier than that. Everyone else will have to wait until the launch date.

Verizon is offering its customers a small bonus: the opportunity to order Apple's smartphone first.  The carrier is going to let this group put in an order starting at 3 am EST on Feb. 3 on its website. If demand for this product is high enough to exhaust the initial supply, those who are pre-ordering will be the ones most likely to get one of the first round of devices.

Those who are switching to Verizon to get an iPhone 4 won't be able to put in an order until February 10.

Like its rival AT&T, Verizon is going to offer two versions of this model: one with 16GB of storage that will sell for $200 with a two-year wireless service contract, while the 32GB version will go for $300 with contract. These are the same prices AT&T charges.

Verizon is making a couple of special offers. Current customers who upgraded during the holiday shopping season can get $200 off the cost of a new iPhone (read more details) or AT&T customers can trade-in their smartphone to defray the cost of a new Verizon model (read more details).

Verizon's and AT&T's versions of Apple's latest smartphone are virtually identical. They both run iOS 4.2 on the 1 GHz Apple A4 processor.

No matter which carrier offers it, the iPhone 4 has a tablet shape with a 3.5-inch, 960 x 640 touchscreen.

Its rear-facing camera has a 5 megapixel resolution and an LCD flash. The front-facing camera allows for video conferencing.
