AT&T to Greatly Expand Its Catalog of Android Devices

Now that its iPhone exclusivity is coming to an end, AT&T appears to be ramping up its Android OS support, if a leaked internal document from the company is legitimate.

The wireless carrier intends to release a dozen Android devices within the upcoming year, which will more than double its current selection of smartphones running Google's operating system. As it stands, AT&T sells seven Android phones, including the Samsung Captivate, the HTC Aria, The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, and four devices from Motorola: the Backflip, the Bravo, the Flipside, and the Flipout.

More 4G Phones, Too
Also mentioned in the leaked document, was AT&T's intent to release twenty 4G devices in 2011, which, as we already know, include three upcoming smartphones: the Motorola Atrix 4G, the HTC Inspire 4G, and the Samsung Infuse 4G.

The 4G descriptor, however, could mean a couple of different things for AT&T. It just recently began referring to its current HSPA+ network as 4G, but it will also have an LTE (Long Term Evolution) network up and running starting this summer. As a result, which of these 4G models will support HSPA+ and which ones will support LTE remains to be seen.
