AT&T has just announced that the HTC Inspire is going to debut much earlier than expected. This high-end Android OS model is going to break new ground for AT&T in a number of ways, including screen size and data transfer speeds.
It will be this carrier's first smartphone with a 4.3-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) display. Both Verizon and Sprint have smartphones with screens this large, but previously, AT&T's largest was the Samsung Captivate with a 4-inch display. This will be a new type that its maker is calling a Super LCD.
The Inspire 4G will also be AT&T's first with with Google Android OS 2.2, which means it will have full support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1.
In addition, this will also be the first phone to support AT&T's new HSPA+ network. As T-Mobile has begun calling its HSPA+ network "4G", AT&T has decided to follow suit. That's why this model has "4G" in its name.
If all that wasn't enough, the Inspire 4G will be this carriers first with mobile hotspot software, allowing it to share its 3G or 4G connection with other computers over a Wi-Fi connection.
More High-End Specs
The Inspire 4G will use the latest version of the HTC Sense user interface, and have a 1 GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, and come bundled with an 8 GB microSD memory card.
This smartphone will also include an 8-megapixel camera with HD video recorder and dual-LED flash.
Pricing & Availability
The HTC Inspire 4G will cost $100 with a two-year wireless service agreement.
It will be available in company owned retail stores and AT&T's website on Feb. 13. Previously, this carrier had said the Inspire 4G wouldn't launch until late March.
