Confession Via an iPhone App Gets Catholic Church Approval

A new iPhone application Confession: A Roman Catholic App released by Little i Apps is not exactly confession, at least not yet. Instead, it's something of a stop gap between in-person confessions.

Available in the iTunes app store for $1.99, Confession acts as a preparatory measure for the Rite of Penance, offering users a chance for "a personalized examination of conscience."

Little i Apps hopes that users will bring the app with them into the confessional, and that it can help lapsed Catholics back into the fold and reintroduce them to the process of confession.

Confession the app cannot provide absolution, and people looking for absolution will need to visit a priest. However, the application has been officially endorsed and authorized as a tool for guidance by the Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne in Indiana, Kevin Rhoades, and was made with the help of the Reverend Dan Scheit.

Confession: A Roman Catholic App currently has four out of five stars in the iTunes store after 81 customer ratings, and is in the process of being updated and upgraded.

It runs on the Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
