It's been a slow grind for the Pre 2, but the phone has finally officially made its way to Verizon.
The Pre 2's arrival has been a saga, taking significantly longer than expected to hit Verizon's shelves. And its successor, the HP Pre 3, was announced during HP's webOS event last week, before the Pre 2 could really even get out of the gate.
Customers searching for it should look for the "Palm Pre 2", as Verizon has not yet adopted HP’s new branding of the device as the HP Pre 2.
More Details on the HP Pre 2
This smartphone has a 3.1-inch HVGA (320 x 480) touchscreen and features a portrait-oriented slide-out keyboard.
It runs webOS 2.0, and is powered by a 1GHz processor, comes with 512 MB of RAM, and has 16GB of built-in storage. An upgrade to the recently-announced webOS 2.1 had been promised.
The connectivity options of the Pre 2 include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and free wireless hotspot functionality for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
Price & Availability
The original $100 limited time offer price from earlier this week was truly limited, apparently only extending to pre-orders, as the phone is now listed for $150 in the Verizon store with a two-year contact.
HP is also selling an unlocked version of the Pre 2 directly to the public. This can be used with wireless carriers that use the GSM standard, like AT&T and T-Mobile. It costs $450.
