Verizon has taken some steps forward with its V Cast Music app, adding several features that increase the store's usefulness and applicability for Android users.
One of the most important features is the availability of full-track songs in the V Cast library, available at 69 cents, 99 cents, and $1.29.
The songs will be available in MP3 format, and are not subject to Digital Rights Management – where the copyright holder makes restrictions to content use. Songs with DRM restrictions from other stores might only be able to be played on the device on which they were purchased, for example.
Another major addition to the store is the added ability to buy songs in different formats. Aside from the MP3 format already mentioned, the V Cast store will also offer full-length ringtones and ringback tones. Certain bundles of the formats will be discounted.
Other Enhancements
Some peripheral updates in V Cast Music come in the form of a customer wish list, a recommendations feature for suggesting songs to family and friends, and ringback Jukeboxes, which are set up by the customer and cycle through the songs that will play as the ringer when someone calls the device.
Availability
The V Cast Music app is available on phones running Google's Android OS 2.1 or higher. The app is free, but customers must have a data package to download, and data charges will be incurred while browsing, previewing, and downloading songs.
