One of the major enhancements in the newly-announced iOS 4.3 is an app that will allow the iPhone 4 to act like a mobile Wi-Fi access point. AT&T has confirmed that its version of Apple's smartphone would get this feature.
Mobile hotspot apps are becoming increasingly common, and many people like them, as they allow a phone to share its cellular-wireless Internet connection with other computers. It took wireless carriers a while to embrace them, though, as they can significantly increase the amount of data their subscribers use.
It'll Cost You
An AT&T spokesperson told Phone Scoop that his company is going to let its customers use this feature, but it is going to cost extra. They will be required to have this carrier's DataPro plan, which then brings 2 GB of data for $25, with the tethering add-on, which brings 2 GB of additional data for $25 more.
AT&T requirers users of other smartphones with mobile hotspot software to have this same data plan.
Coming Next Week
The free iOS 4.3 upgrade for AT&T's version of the iPhone 4 is going to be released on Friday, March 11.
This feature is not going to to be available for the Apple iPhone 3GS or earlier models.
