Skyfire has released a new version of its iPhone mobile web browser. Skyfire 3.0 heavily integrates Facebook into the browsing experience, making the social media network the crux of the web surfing experience.
This app is best known for its ability to play Flash video that's embedded into websites, but its developers want people to use it for much more.
In this app, the Facebook "Like" button is omnipresent, appearing on every page along with options to share content with friends. Skyfire is clearly angling to be the mobile browser of choice for the Facebook fanatic.
Jeff Glueck, CEO of Skyfire, sums up the mission of the new browser: "This latest iteration leverages the cloud to not only streamline playback of rich multimedia – including Flash video – but also to seamlessly integrate your social graph into the browser."
Other Facebook integration features include the "Popular Content" app on the browser, which shows the content on a page that was most popular with a user’s Facebook friends or the Facebook community as a whole, and the "Fireplace Feed Reader," which takes a Facebook news feed and turns it into a launch pad for web browsing.
Aside from the Facebook integration, Skyfire 3.0 also made updates to video playback, implementing optimizations that will help video viewing drain less of a user’s data plan. And 3.0 also includes Skyfire OneTouch Search, a shortcut that allows users to quickly search on Google, Wikipedia, or VideoSurf.
Skyfire 3.0 is currently available for download in the Apple App Store for $2.99.
