The spring CTIA tradeshow is coming up in two weeks, and Sprint has scheduled a press event for the first day. According to information that has leaked out of this carrier, it's planning to use this event to unveil its first smartphone with a 3D screen, as well as its newest model with the 4G standard WiMAX.
At this point, not much is known about EVO 3D besides its name, but the implication of this name is clear: this is going to be a high-end device with a 3D screen.
The company manufacturing this model is a mystery, but a strong possibility is LG, as this model could be Sprint's version of the LG Optimus 3D, a recently-unveiled smartphone with both a 3D display and a 5-megapixel 3D camera.
If the EVO 3D really is this device from LG, then it will run Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a 1 GHz dual-core processor.
However, LG is not the only one developing models with 3D screens, so Sprint's first 3D-enabled smartphone could be made by another company.
Samsung Nexus S 4G, Too
According to an unconfirmed report, Sprint is also readying the Samsung Nexus S 4G, a version of this already-available smartphone with support for WiMAX.
The Nexus S model that's currently on the market fully supports only T-Mobile's wireless network, but its cutting-edge feature set is likely creating demand in customers of other carriers.
This is the only device available now with Android OS 2.3, plus it has a 4-inch Super AM-OLED touchscreen that is curved to fit comfortably against users' faces.
In addition, it includes front- and rear-facing cameras with VoIP software and video conferencing capabilities.
A Tablet, Too
Sprint is also reportedly planning to announce the EVO View, which will apparently be a tablet of some type. However, no details on this upcoming device are available at this time.
This won't be this carrier's first tablet, as it already offers the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Stay Tuned
Sprint's press event at CTIA is going to be held on the afternoon of March 22. Reporters from both Brighthand and its sister site TabletPCReview will be in attendance to prepare both news and preliminary reviews of whatever gets announced.
