Android OS Getting Adobe Flash Player 10.2 Next Week

Adobe has just announced that many smartphones running Google's Android OS will be getting an update to the latest version of Flash Player in just a few days. This will bring better performance on dual-core processors, as well as other improvements. 

Many new and upcoming smartphones have dual-core processors with GPUs, such as the Motorola Atrix 4G and LG Optimus 2X. Flash Player 10.2 will be able to take advantage of these advanced processors to provide faster performance for online games and streaming video.

Tablets running Android OS 3.0.1 (Honeycomb) will get hardware-accelerated playback of H.264 video, as well as Deeper integration with the Android web browser's rendering engine.

All devices with version 10.2 will see improvements in on-screen keyboards.

Flash Player 10.2 will be available for download via Android Market on Friday, March 18.

Adobe is releasing this software for devices running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) that meet certain hardware requirements -- for example, models with a WVGA (800 x 480) screen must have an 800 MHz processor or faster.

The version of this software for tablets running Honeycomb will be a beta.

Going forward, new smartphones and tablets will ship with Flash Player 10.2 pre-installed.
