T-Mobile and Samsung decided to stop dropping hints and officially announce the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, an upcoming smartphone with the Android OS, a flip-up screen, and a QWERTY keyboard.
This will be the first model with the "Sidekick" name that runs Google's mobile operating system, but it will retain the consumer focus of its predecessors, as well as the hardware keyboard they were known for.
It will also sport a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a front-facing camera for video chatting.
The Sidekick 4G, which is being produced by Samsung, will run Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor.
A Social Phone
This smartphone is going to offer Sidekick Group Text, which will let customers create, name, manage and participate in reply-all group text conversations. Friends with any SMS-capable device will be able to participate in these. Sidekick Cloud Text will allow owners of this phone to send text from a web browser.
The Sidekick 4G is also going to come with Facebook and Twitter clients.
With 4G in its name, it's no surprise that this device will support this carrier's HSPA+ cellular-wireless network, giving a theoretical download speed of 21 Mbps. Naturally, speeds are lower in real-world conditions, but still generally faster than 3G connections.
This high-speed connection will enhance the performance of streaming media apps like YouTube, T-Mobile TV, and Slacker Radio. Users of the Sidekick 4G will also be able to rent or purchase movies and TV programs from the Samsung Media Hub.
Pricing and Availability?
Although T-Mobile has now officially announced the Sidekick 4G, the company is only saying that this product will be on the market "later this spring".
The price for this Samsung smartphone has also not been announced.
This Sidekick model is going to be offered in two color combinations: matte black or pearl magenta.
