The sixth and seventh Windows Phone 7 handsets could be on the way from HTC, the Ignite and the Prime, as listings for the phones have surfaced on the web. But the news should be taken lightly, as there are certain parts of it that don't quite add up.
The specs of the HTC Ignite include an 800 MHz processor, a 3.7-inch resistive touchscreen, 512 MB of RAM, and a five-megapixel camera, according to the Chinese site XDA.cn.
Therein lies the problem with this news, though: Microsoft has a very stringent list of hardware requirements for the phones that run its Windows Phone 7 operating system, and the Ignite doesn't meet them. Microsoft mandates that Windows Phone 7 handsets cannot have resistive touchscreens and must have a minimum 1 GHz processor.
There is also the Prime from HTC which, though it cannot be confirmed, appears to have insides identical to those of the Ignite. Its primary difference is that it will feature a sliding keyboard.
Both phones have made appearances on other outlets, which lends credence to their existence, even if their internals are subject to question; the Prime has been spotted in the carrier Telestra's internal system, while the Ignite showed up on U.K. site King of Gadgets.
Little is known about the pricing or availability of either handset, though XDA.cn says to expect the Ignite in "mid-2011."
