The American release of the Nokia C7, previously tipped off by the FCC, got one step closer to an official reveal today when reliable inside sources claimed that the smartphone is, in fact, coming to T-Mobile, but only after being re-named the Nokia Astound.
This model will be available to T-Mobile customers on April 8 according to TmoNews, and will cost $80 after a mail-in rebate. An official announcement of the device should come from Nokia on Monday evening at its CTIA press event.
Though the Astound will run the Symbian^3 operating system and was rumored to be the last Nokia handset to do so before the switch to Windows Phone 7, TmoNews’ sources claim there will be approximately four more Symbian-based devices released by Nokia. Windows Phone 7 handsets from the company are not expected until 2012.
An Overview of the Nokia Astound
This Nokia model will sport a 3.5-inch, nHD (640 x 360) capacitive touchscreen, and will be powered by a 680 MHz processor. It will have 8 GB of internal memory (expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card slot) and features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA-resolution front-facing camera for video calls.
Other features are going to include a GPS receiver an FM radio and transmitter, a 1200mAh battery, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Astound will reportedly be a 3G-only device.
