Sprint has just announced plans to release its own 4G version of the Samsung Nexus S, one of only two devices running the latest version of Google's Android OS.
This model also has a large, curved touchscreen, WiMAX high-speed wireless networking support, and other advanced features.
The Nexus S debuted late last year from T-Mobile, and Sprint will be the second U.S. carrier to offer it. Exactly when that's going to be has not yet been announced -- Sprint only said that this model will be available some time this spring.
Sprint is going to charge $200 for this smartphone when it's purchased with a two-year service contract, that's the same price as T-Mobile.
Samsung Nexus S Overview
This device has a bar shape with a 4-inch, WVGA (800 x 480), Super AM-OLED touchscreen that curves to fit against the user's face.
The Nexus S runs Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on a 1GHz Samsung processor. It has 512MB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD memory card slot.
This Samsung model uses a "pure" version of Google's operating system, without a customized user interface overlay. Naturally, it comes with the standard suite of Android OS software for communication, entertainment, and productivity.
Sprint's version will support the carrier's 4G WiMAX network, plus it will offer Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, NFC, and A-GPS.
The Nexus S also has a front-facing video camera for video conferencing, as well as a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera.
But Wait... There's More
Today's announcement was clearly timed to allow Sprint to show off this upcoming model at the CTIA tradeshow, which kicks off tomorrow in Orlando.
During a press event on the first day of this show, Sprint is expected to unveil the HTC EVO 3D, as well as a tablet or two.
