Today U.S. Cellular is launching an Android phone for people on a budget, with the carrier's release of the reasonably priced Samsung Gem.
This is not a cutting-edge device, but it's a entry-level option for those looking to try out a smartphone for the first time.
Overview of the Samsung Gem
The Gem sports Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) and has a 3.2-inch, QVGA (320 x 480) touchscreen in a bar shape.
It features social network integration that makes it easier for users to manage and control their accounts, featuring a function that lets users post photos, status updates, or messages to all of their various media accounts using just one button.
This model also features a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and it comes with a 4 GB microSD card.
U.S. Cellular says it is good for 6.8 hours of talk time on a single charge.
The Samsung Gem is currently available from U.S. Cellular for $30 after an $80 mail-in rebate and with an appropriate data plan.
