T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide Gets Its Android OS 2.2 Upgrade

HTC hasn't forgotten about the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, and has released a significant system software upgrade for this mid-range model that debuted last year.

The myTouch 3G launched with Android OS 2.1, but an upgrade to OS 2.2 is now available.

Among the new features brought by this upgrade is a Wi-Fi hotspot app and USB tethering, as well as support for T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling service. However, this device is not getting a version of the Adobe Flash Player because its processor is not fast enough to handle it.

A number of bugs are also fixed.

Upgrade Now
The Android OS 2.2 upgrade for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G is available on the HTC website (Despite its name, this smartphone was actually designed and produced by HTC.)

Unlike most Android upgrades which are downloaded straight to the smartphone, installing the new system software version on the myTouch 3G requires a Windows PC.

This smartphone has a 3.4-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) touchscreen, a slide-out landscape-oriented keyboard, and a trackpad.

The myTouch 3G Slide is able to access T-Mobile's voice and 3G networks. It also has Wi-Fi and stereo Bluetooth. In addition, the device includes a 5 megapixel camera, GPS receiver and a 1300 mAh Lion battery.

It comes in three colors: black, white or red.
