Verizon Getting the HP Pre 3 webOS Smartphone

When HP officially unveiled the Pre 3 early last month, the company didn't say which wireless carriers will be offering this webOS-based smartphone. New evidence suggests that one of these will be Verizon.

An image of the HP Pre 3 connected to Verizon's network has appeared on the Web. If this isn't a deliberate hoax, it's a strong sign that the upcoming model is headed for this carrier.

There's good reason to trust this image: Verizon is the only U.S. carrier offering the Pre 2, so it's not surprising that it would also offer it successor.

The debut of the Pre 3 won't be soon, though: HP says this smartphone isn't scheduled for released until this summer.

Users of the first two Pre models often asked for a display larger than 3.1 inches. The next model is the answer, as it's going to have a 3.6-inch touchscreen, and a slightly larger keyboard, too. It will have the same general design as its predecessors: a slider with a portrait-oriented keyboard.

On the inside will be a 1.4GHz processor, and it will have 512MB of RAM. Users will have a choice of versions with 8GB or 16GB of internal storage.

It's going to debut running webOS 2.1, a multi-tasking operating system that is bundled with a range of apps, including a powerful web browser, email app, and video player.

In addition to being a phone, the Pre 3 will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. It will be able to share its cellular connection with other devices over Wi-Fi.

It is going to include two cameras, a typical rear-facing 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, as well as a front-facing camera with Skype support.

Overall, this device will be 4.4 by 2.5 by 0.6 inches (111mm by 64mm by 16mm) and 5.5 ounces (156 g)
