Nokia Ovi Mail Migrates to Yahoo

The Ovi Mail service for Nokia users is being migrated to Yahoo to provide customers with extra features benefits. However a number of customers have found the move jarring.

Added Benefits
Ovi Mail users will have access to services with Yahoo that were unavailable in the previous Ovi Mail iteration. Ovi Mail powered by Yahoo will supposedly be faster and more powerful, and will offer Yahoo's chat functions. Users will also have access to features like Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance.

User Complaints
The comments section on the official announcement of the move is littered with complaints and horror stories from users. The biggest problem most have mentioned is the unavailability of old messages and contacts during the migration and the fact that Ovi did not sufficiently alert users that their data would be inaccessible during the move.

Making matters worse, the timeframe for the availability of this data after migration ranges from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

Less widespread and egregious are issues with language settings, as the new Ovi Mail automatically sets language depending on a user's IP. So, an English speaker in China will automatically have his/her Ovi Mail set to Chinese when they migrate.

Addressing this, the official Ovi Blog posted this addendum to the original announcement of the migration: "If you are experiencing language problems in the new interface, this is going to be fixed anytime [sic] soon. Thanks for your patience."

A collection of users also mentioned that they were less than pleased with the copious advertisements that a Yahoo powered mail client features.
