Samsung says that a recent report that the release of the Galaxy S II has been pushed back several months is incorrect, and this high-end Android OS smartphone will launch by the end of April.
A pair of tweets from the company say:
"Samsung GALAXY S II will be first released in April, as planned."
"It will be gradually rolled out in each market according to the local launch timetable."
Earlier this week, a tweet from Samsung India indicated that the global launch of this model had been delayed until June. This tweet has since been removed.
Processor Upgrade?
A delay in the launch of the Galaxy S II isn't the only news to come out of a Samsung subsidiary this week. Samsung Estonia also said that this smartphone is going to debut with a 1.2 GHz dual-core chip, not the slower 1 GHz dual-core chip that was originally promised.
At this point, the main office in Korea has neither officially confirmed nor denied this.
Other Features of the Samsung Galaxy S II
The upcoming version of the Galaxy S will have a larger display than its predecessor and a better camera.
It is going to have a very slim bar shape built around a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus Touchscreen with a WVGA (480x800) resolution.
The Galaxy S II will run Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), the latest version of Google's operating system.
There will be versions with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage as well as a microSD memory card slot potentially giving it 32 GB more capacity.
In addition to 3G cellular wireless networking, this model is going to feature Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, an A-GPS receiver, and DLNA.
The specifications list includes an 8 MPx camera with FullHD (1080p) video recording at 30fps, while a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera will be used for video conferencing.
One version of the Galaxy S II will include support for Near Field Communication (NFC), something that is built into Android OS 2.3. This allows users to read information off of everyday objects like stickers and posters that are embedded with NFC chips.
The smartphone will also boast an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor, as well as 1650mAh battery.
Overall, this Samsung model is going to be 4.9 by 2.6 by 0.3 inches (125 x 66 x 8.5mm) and 4.0 ounces (116g).
